A Message from CCA Board Chair Ron Reed

Dear CCA Friends:

It is with mixed emotions that I write to announce that CCA’s Executive Director Nicolette Clarke will retire at the end of the Center’s fiscal year on July 31, 2021.

Nicki submitted her letter of resignation at a recent Capitol Center for the Arts’ board meeting stating that it was time for her to take a final bow and move on to the next chapter of her life. She told the group, “I have had an exciting and fulfilling 46-year career in the arts including an amazing 14-year run at the Capitol Center. It has been an honor to lead an organization that provides such rich and diverse arts experiences at two unique historic venues.“

I hope you will join me in thanking Nicki for her superb leadership having navigated the CCA through both the great recession and the current pandemic. Nicki and her team have been undaunted through this challenging year, organizing advocacy efforts with other theaters across the state successfully petitioning for emergency financial relief to keep the operations going with a significantly reduced staff of nine. The CCA has also continued to present programs through the pandemic, first, in a series of outdoor performances last summer in Fletcher-Murphy Park in partnership with the Concord Community Music School, and most recently, a virtual series of live stream and recorded performances under the banner of the Mud Season Sampler.

In addition, Nicki guided the board and staff through several organizational development and safety projects including a new strategic plan, advanced analytic and marketing tools, and an advisory team to address equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) policies and programs.

With all of this work in place, and a full season of shows ready to launch once occupancy restrictions are lifted, the CCA is ready to emerge successfully from the pandemic and handle this leadership transition. To identify Nicki’s successor, I have appointed CCA board members David Fries and Blake Wayman to Co-Chair a search committee and our multi-talented Assistant Executive Director, Joe Gleason will serve as Interim Director if the search process is not completed by the end of July.
