Culinary Artist in Residence Program

Culinary Artist in ResidenceA Culinary Artist-in-Residence program, working with newly arrived or marginalized community members who want to start a culinary business.  This program allows these new entrepreneurs to build their food business in a low-risk way using the CCA’s two commercial kitchens.  The first Culinary Artist-in-Residence is Batulo’s Kitchen, run by beloved local food vendor Batulo Mahamed, who specializes in Somali meat pies.  In addition to growing her customer base and launching her business, Batulo’s delicacies will be sold at CCA and Bank of NH Stage concession stands throughout her residency.

My name is Batulo Mohamed. I am a hard working mother and a loving wife. You may know me from the Concord Multicultural Festival where I’ve sold my Somali meat pies for the past 10 years; or from local farmers markets where I’ve sold my fresh produce with Fresh Start Farms. You may have even read about me in the Concord Monitor or Business NH Magazine!

In 2004, I came to the US from Somalia - where there was little to no opportunity - to live the American Dream with my family. It was very easy for our family to adapt to our new lives in America, but one thing we never left behind was our ability to create our homeland dishes, and we are excited to share that with you!

Our family’s dream was to open our very own family-owned restaurant, a dream that once felt so far out of reach, but is now coming true thanks to all of the love and support from the community!

We can’t wait for you to experience our culture and taste what Somalia is really about!
