KHAN!CORD Day is an official, one-time event which will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 in Concord, NH, in cooperation with the City of Concord and the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce.  It coincides with a William Shatner performance/Q&A and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan screening at the Capitol Center for the Arts that evening. Participating local businesses are encouraging attendees and other sci-fi fans to ”make it a day (or weekend) in Concord” by offering special activities, promotions, and displays. There will also be a week-long “KHAN!ned Goods Drive” to benefit the Friendly Kitchen soup kitchen.

Concord Mayor Jim Bouley noted in his proclamation, “Star Trek continues to draw fans of all ages, including young people who are vital to the future of Concord. It has inspired many to enter careers in science, engineering, computers, and technology.” He also pointed out that  ” ‘KHAN!!!!’ is one of Mr. Shatner’s iconic lines in the [Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan] movie. Were he asked to pronounce ‘Concord’, he’d undoubtedly nail the local dialect better than most.”

Participating KHAN!CORD Day organizations:

  • Area 23 Concord – food and drink specials; they are also hosting a “Toast to SciFi” from 2-6pm
  • Ballard’s Ice Cream – the “KHAN-CONE”, a regular soft serve ice cream in a gourmet waffle cone

And if you’re coming to the Shatner show that night, be sure to check out a special blue ale created for the event by Concord Craft Brewing Company. It’s inspired by Star Trek lore of “Romulan ale”, a highly intoxicating alcoholic beverage of Romulan origin with a characteristic blue color (ranging from a pale sky blue to a dark midnight blue). It took a while to ferment and in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Dr. McCoy joked that he used it for “medicinal purposes.” It’s available only this weekend at the CCA and supplies are limited.
