Yamica Peterson is a rising indie artist whose performance and writing captures fresh grooves filled with tasty hooks and tells her story of living life as a Mother and an artist. A Portsmouth NH native, Yamica is the eldest granddaughter of the late Jean M. Jones, Portsmouth’s own ‘Lady of Song’ and great-niece to local jazz legend Sharon ‘Brown Sugar’ Jones. At age 3, she gave her first performance and has been singing in some capacity ever since. Yamica’s band ‘Mica’s Groove Train’ was a New England Music Awards nominee for Best Soul/R&B act in 2019. This singer/songwriter can often be found in clubs all over northern New England as the ‘Mica Peterson Duo’, where various, highly talented local artists join her on stage.
