Our volunteers are often the first faces our patrons see when they arrive. For that reason, it is important to have a helpful and friendly attitude. Volunteers not only support the shows that are favorites to see but are a key part of every event. Your support when called upon is essential to the sustainability of the Capitol Center for the Arts and most appreciated!

In an effort to encourage attendance and accountability, we have developed an incentive program. Those who achieve the following goals and requirements are allowed to sign up first for two shows at the semi-annual usher dinner.

Goals & Requirements

• Designated number of shows- 12 shows from mid-August through mid-January to qualify for the January signup meeting; and 12 shows (including two dance competitions) from mid-January to mid-August to qualify for the September signup meeting.
• Two Dance Competitions per Season in order to remain an usher in good standing
• Strive for 100% attendance to the shows for which you have sign up for. While things do come up and emergencies happen, if you cancel a show with less than 48 hours of notice, your good standing may be compromised.
• Timely arrival -Timely arrival is very important. There is an usher meeting held with the House Manager prior to each show to go over the particulars of the show, make assignments and conduct any necessary training. If you are late three or more times, your status may be changed.

To cancel a shift

• Cancellations should be done on-line, if possible. You may also contact the Front of House manager Cheryl Lampron at 225-1111 ext 115 or by email at clampron@ccanh.com if it is before the day of the event.
• If you must cancel on the day of the event, please call the House Manager’s Office – 225-1111 – Ext 123. This phone is checked 2hrs before each show. If you need to reach the House Manager after that please call this cell phone (603) 545-7786.

Usher Training / Emergency Evacuation Training

• All Volunteer Ushers attend one training session at least once every two years.
• New volunteers should attend a session as soon as possible. The training schedule will be listed on your personal sign up page under All Signups.
• This training will give you the information you need about our building and evacuation procedures and introduce you to all the assignments you may have when volunteering. It is a very informative night run by our wonderful staff and house managers.
• The trainings are scheduled for 3hrs. This allows small groups to move to several locations in the building in 15 min increments as well as cover fire safety and evacuation procedures. Snacks are provided at the concessions station.
• A volunteer can start ushering before attending a training as on the job training is encouraged. You will be paired with a veteran usher that will lead you through your first experience.

Usher Attire

While the most important thing our ushers wear is a friendly smile, volunteers are asked to dress as follows so that you will be easily recognizable as a CCA usher in the event that any of our patrons need assistance. Ushers always wear black slacks or skirt, black shoes and black socks or tights

Shows or events will be designated on your sign up as:
• Black Tie – white tuxedo(or collared button down dress) shirt and a black bow tie
• Polo shirts- CCA logo polo shirt- no bow tie needed

Tuxedo shirts, bow ties and CCA Polo shirts can be purchased at the Capitol Center for the Arts Box Office during business hours or one hour prior to a show.
• Short sleeve CCA polo shirts-most sizes for $20.
• Long sleeve CCA polo shirts can be ordered for $25
• Tuxedo shirts and bow ties- $25
Tuxedo shirts and bow ties can also be purchased at Men’s Warehouse in Concord.

All ushers need to have a small flashlight at every show.
All ushers will be provided with a CCA nametag lanyard.

To Say “Thank You!”

• The CCA holds 2 Volunteer Appreciation Catered Dinners each year to show our appreciation of your dedication to us and to provide an opportunity to sign-up in person for the upcoming season. We also celebrate you during Volunteer Month (April) with a breakfast catered by our production staff.

If you have any questions please contact Cheryl Lampron Front of House Manager at 225-1111 ext 115.
