Usher Duties at the Capitol Center

All shows listed below will have a House Manager or staff member assigned to manage volunteers

Mainstage
Type: Music Acts, Comedy, Drama, Broadway Musicals
Locale: Chubb Theater,
Usher Arrival: 1.5 Hours prior to show time
Lobby opens: 1hr before show time.
Average Run Time: 2-2.5 hours with one intermission
Typical Usher Duties: take tickets, assist with will call, sell concessions, help patrons locate their seats, and assist with cleaning theater after performance

Live and Rebroadcast shows
Type: MET Operas, National Theater Live (NTL), Bolshoi Ballet
Locale: Chubb Theater
Usher Arrival: 1.5 hours prior to show time
Lobby Opens: 45 minutes before broadcast
Average Run Time: 3-4 Hours with two intermissions
Typical Usher Duties: Take tickets, assist in box office with will-call and simple “day of” sales, concession sales

Spotlight Café
Type: Intimate shows by musicians, authors, and speakers in a club-like setting
Locale: Governor’s Hall,
Usher Arrival: 1.25 hours prior to show time
Lobby Opens: 1 hour prior to show time
Average Run time: 2-3 Hours may or may not be a break between sets.
Typical Usher duties: Help with ticketing, set up and serve coffee and concessions, assist with seating patrons, and post-show clean up.

Salon Series
Type: Conversation style presentation with alternative artists, writers, bakers, etc.
Locale: Kimball House 2nd floor,
Usher Arrival: 1 hour prior to show time
Average Run Time: 1-2 hours
Typical Usher duties: Greet patrons and direct them to the Kimball House second floor

Gile Series Concerts
Type: Free performances, mostly music and dance
Locale: Chubb Theater, occasionally Spotlight Café
Usher Arrival: 1.5 Hours prior to show time
Lobby opens: 1hr before show time.
Average Run Time: 2-2.5 hours with one intermission
Typical Usher Duties: take tickets, assist with will call, sell concessions, help patrons locate their seats, assist with cleaning theater after performance
Special Notes: Each patron can get a maximum of 4 tickets each. Standby tickets are given after all seats are full. Patrons turn in unused tickets which are distributed to people in the standby line.

Dance Competitions
Type; Regional competitions for New England dance studios, can run for 2-3 days, 8-12 hours a day, most typically held January-May
Locale: Chubb Theater
Number of Volunteers needed: 8 ushers per 4-hour shift
Usher Arrival: At start of 4hr shift
Special Notes: The CCA requests that each volunteer signs up for and completes 2 Dance Competition shifts per year.

School Shows- Educational Series
Type: Curriculum-linked, weekday, daytime education shows. On some occasions, two shows are scheduled for 10am and 12pm
Locale: Chubb Theater
Usher Arrival: 1 hour prior to show time.
Lobby Open: 30min before show time
Average Run Time: 1hr.
Typical Usher Duties:
-Runners-lead the teachers and students from the walkway to the theater and hand them off to the seating ushers as assigned by the house manager.
-Seaters-escort the students to their seating area and help guide students into their seats. Floor maps are provided to know where each school is assigned. Ushers also assist with dismissal for school shows, which is announced from the stage and is done school-by-school using colored flags to indicate where each school should exit.

Concord School District Productions
Type: Music in Our Schools performances by Concord band, chorus and orchestra
Locale: Chubb Theater, general admission
Usher Arrival: 1.5 hrs prior to show
Lobby Opens: 1hr before show
Average run time: 2 hours
Typical Usher Duties: check for hand stamps to show admittance watch for outside food/drink, hand out programs at orchestra and balcony levels, keep patrons from leaning on the back wall, or blocking exits.

RB Productions Youth Theater(summer)
Weekly Musicals by Youth Theater company RB Productions on Friday & Saturday in the month of July
Locale: Chubb Theater, General Admission
Usher Arrival: 1.5 hrs prior to show
Lobby Opens: 1hr before show
Average Run time: 1-1.5 Hours
Typical Usher Duties: Assist in Box office, take tickets, sell concessions.

Impact- Jean’s Playhouse Children’s Series(summer)
Type: Abbreviated performances of classic fairy tales adapted for a very young audience
Locale: Governor’s Hall. Takes place every Tuesday for 7 weeks at 11am and 230 pm
Average Run Time: 30-45 minutes

Community Concerts/Events
Baccalaureates, graduations, religious and memorial services are rentals and are not ticketed events. Ushers are often needed to assist with guiding attendees to various points in the building.
