Welcome to the Capitol Center for the Arts Volunteer Page

The Capitol Center is blessed with several hundred truly dedicated volunteers and House Managers, without whom the show quite literally, could not go on. All come from a variety of backgrounds bringing their wealth of experience and love for the arts to the organization.
From ushering, to stenciling the theater’s magnificent ceiling to assisting with special functions and in the business offices, volunteers fill critical roles. Capitol Center volunteers are vibrant, caring individuals who take great pride in their community service.

The Capitol Center for the Arts is always seeking volunteers from the community to lend a helping hand. If you are interested in volunteering, please register on the volunteer registration form as a new volunteer so that we may better match your talents and interests with our needs – New Volunteer Registration Form.

Volunteer Guide

Welcome to the Capitol Center for the Arts. Thank you for registering as a Volunteer Usher. We hope to see you often at the Capitol Center for the Arts, please be advised that there is no minimum number requirement of shows. You can volunteer for as many shows or events as you would like. The only requirement is that you usher two shifts of Dance Competitions per year. Dance Competition Season begins in late January and goes through May.
The CCA also holds two Volunteer Appreciation Dinners each year to celebrate you and to let you sign up for the upcoming season. In an effort to encourage attendance and accountability, we have developed an incentive program called Superstars. Superstars get to sign up for two shows at the semi-annual usher signup meeting before any other ushers.
SuperStar Requirments:
You must sign up for and attend the designated number of shows. The requirements are 12 shows from August 1 through Jan 14th to qualify for the January signup meeting; and 12 shows (including two dance competitions) from January 15 to July 31 to qualify for the September signup meeting.
You must have 100% attendance to the shows for which you have registered. If you cancel a show with less than 48 hour notice, you are absent with no notice or you are late three or more times, you DO NOT qualify as a Superstar. The arrival time for each show will be listed on your Current List. Timely arrival is very important. There is an usher meeting held before each show. This is when we discuss the particulars of the show, do some training and assign jobs for that show. Please be on time.
Usher Cancellation:
In order to qualify for Superstar Status, you must cancel with at least 48 hours notice. Cancellations should be done on-line, if possible. If you must cancel on the day of the event, please call the House Manager’s Office – 225-1111 – Ext 123. This phone is checked 2hrs before each show. If you need to reach the House Manager after that please call this cell phone (603) 545-7786.
Emergency Evacuation/ Usher Training: All Volunteer Ushers must attend an Emergency Evacuation/ Usher Training Session at least once every two years. New volunteers should attend a session as soon as possible. The Training Schedule will be listed on your Personal Site in your Available List. If you are a new usher you do not need to wait until after attending the training to volunteer. Please tell the House Manager on duty at your first show that you are new and he or she will pair you up with a veteran usher until you are able to attend training.
Usher Attire: Shows or events will be designated Black Tie or Polo shirts. Ushers always wear black slacks or skirt, black shoes and socks or tights. If Black Tie is required you will need to wear a white tuxedo shirt and a black bow tie. If Polo shirt is listed then a polo shirt with the CCA logo is required, no bow tie needed.
Tuxedo shirts , bow ties and Polo shirts can be purchased at the Capitol Center for the Arts Box Office during business hours which are currently Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11am to 6pm or beginning one hour prior to a show. We have short sleeve polo shirts in stock in most sizes for $20. If you are interested in a long- sleeve polo or the tuxedo shirt /bow tie you can order them at the box office for $25.

Tuxedo shirts and bow ties can also be purchased at Men’s Warehouse in Concord. All ushers need to have a small flashlight. If you have any questions please contact Cheryl Lampron Front of House Manager at 225-1111 ext 115.

The most important thing to wear is your smile!
